Jermaine Kearse Launches Foundation to Support Youth in Military Families

Jermaine Kearse, wide-receiver for the Seattle Seahawks and former WR for the University of Washington Huskies announced today the launch of 15 to 1: Jermaine Kearse Foundation. The foundation supports and inspires youth in military families to work hard, persevere and believe in order to overcome adversity and find success through positive choices, experiences and opportunity.

“15 to 1 represents my journey, from a military base to the National Football League,” said Kearse. “It represents beating the odds and taking the road that was not necessarily the one that was right in front of me. I grew up on a military base and I know that growing up on base can feel small, and at times isolating. Although our parents could be somewhere all over the world, our universe was pretty small and tight. I want to give back to the community that helped me build my future.”

15 to 1: Jermaine Kearse Foundation is focusing on raising funds to provide experiences aimed at widening the perspective and opportunities for the youth of military families in four key areas:

1. Outreach to Middle Schools and High Schools in Washington – a school assembly series expected to reach over 15,000 kids in the first year.

2. Educational Programs and Travel – funding programs and trips for military kids to participate or travel with their school and/or peer groups that provides educational relevance in the United States and abroad.

3. Outdoor and Sports activities – funding camps and outings getting military kids physically active and exploring the outdoors.

4. Internships and Job Shadowing – facilitating internships and job shadowing for military kids to explore opportunities outside of the military community.

“With gratitude and honor of all of our military members and their families we thank them for their service to our country. As a Puget Sound resident, Lakes High School Lancer, University of Washington Husky and Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl champion, I want to give back to my community and friends who have already given so much,” said Kearse.
