Helping Our Seattle Neighbors is Everybody’s Business

In these tumultuous times, it is easy to feel like big things are happening beyond our control, especially here in Seattle. With the world, seemingly in a state of near chaos, many people feel like the only possible reactions are either panic or complete disengagement (see your social media feeds for case in point). We may feel the urge to exercise what control we have by going inward and completely focusing on our work.

Though our spheres of influence may seem small, we shouldn’t underestimate the power we have to make a difference in the world. We’ve already recently seen — and participated in —  impressive displays of organization and grassroots effort, and there is no reason we can’t all harness that spirit to bring more good into the world every day in your community.

This afternoon, our Fearey Group team will be volunteering at the Seattle Ronald McDonald House by helping prepare meals for families of children receiving ongoing medical treatment away from home. It’s a chance for us to pull together and tend to the needs of people enduring immense stress and pain. It is the least we can do right now.

When Pat Fearey founded our company in 1981, doing good by actually “doing good” was the firm’s philosophy. 36 years later, the next generation of leadership at the firm is continuing with that same philosophy.

We are not alone in this world, and as business/community leaders we have the opportunity to link arms with our neighbors and make a real difference. Though the bottom line will always be a primary focus for any business, let’s not forget what a valuable resource our organizations are; we are already organized!

There are so many people in need and so many ways to help — as long as we work together. Because every business is a self-contained community, focusing that group energy toward a good cause is not only a possibility, it’s our responsibility.
